| ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
Gymnastic exercises were part of the system of physical education as far back as in Ancient Greece and a means of preparing youths for the Olympic games. It's no wonder that artistic gymnastics was included in the program of the first modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.
For a long time this kind of gymnastics was considered a visiting card of the Belarusian sport to some extent. Nikolai Miligulo of Minsk was the first to appear at the 1960 Olympiad in Rome. As a member of the USSR National team he won silver awards. Elena Volchetskaya Larissa Petrik, Tamara Lazakovich, Antonina Koshel, Olga Korbut, Alexander Maleev, Vladimir Shchukin, and Svetlana Boginskaya -this is an incomplete list of those who have multiplied the glorious traditions of the Belarusian Olympic participants.
However, the most remarkable achievement in the history of world gymnastics was Vitaly Shcherbo's success. In 1992 in Barcelona he managed to do the unthinkable - to become a holder of six out of eight Olympic gold medals.
