| RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS
In the year of issuing a commemorative coin (1996), rhythmic gymnastics finally strengthened itself in the Olympic family.
The rhythmic gymnastics of Byelorussia claimed for the leading positions as early as in the middle of the last century. But the first victory hymn was heard in 1960, when Natalya Bordushko, the first Byelorussian gymnast, became a champion of the USSR among women. It was an epoch of forming an original national school, initiated by Larissa Godiyeva. Galina Krylenko and Olga Rabinovich of Minsk won World Championships in group exercises and then their successors began to step onto the winner's podium more often...
In 1988 at Seoul Marina Lobach, an 18 year-old gymnast from Minsk, became the first ever Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics. And in 2000 Yuliya Raskina won a silver medal at the Olympic tournament.
