| MINSK
Minsk is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Belarus. It was founded as a fortress of the Polotsk Principality at the confluence of the Nemiga and Svisloch Rivers. Its chronicle has been kept since 1067 — the first documentary records. Having appeared as an outpost of the Polotsk land on its southern borders, more than once it hindered the advance of invaders for many centuries. During more than 900 years the city's appearance often changed due to inexorable time, wars, and fires.
Today Minsk is a political, economic and cultural center of the sovereign country, the capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The residents of Minsk treat the preserved architectural heritage of the past with love, continuing the constructive initiative of their ancestors. The construction of the historic center of Minsk includes architecture of the last five centuries.
Modern Minsk rejoices us with its broad and light avenues, spacious squares, various well-proportioned architectural ensembles, luxuriant green plants of public gardens and parks.
