EXPO 2010

The World EXPO is a large-scale international event and the largest foreign policy happening that attracts millions of people from across the world where each participating country presents its integral national image, including through achievements in different spheres (the national economy, history, culture, science, education, and art). The involvement of states and international public institutions enables them to widely advertise and demonstrate positive image of their country at the international level.
The unique feature of the world expositions is that following their closure the remaining architectural constructions serve as ex¬cellent exhibition grounds and many of them are regarded as real symbols of the cities and even countries as a whole. For example, the Eiffel Tower was presented to the world by the World EXPO held in Paris from May through November 1889.
192 countries from all over the world and 49 international or¬ganizations, i.e. more than 240 participants, expressed their willing¬ness to take part in the World EXPO 2010 held in Shanghai (People's Republic of China) from May 1 to October 31, 2010 - a new record in 150 plus years history of the World EXPO.
The theme of the exposition is "Better City - Better Life". The urgency and topicality of the theme were predetermined by the major challenges of the modern society - globalization, climate change, financial crisis, overpopulation, migration, etc. According to the concept of the World EXPO 2010, the national exposition of each participant should demonstrate the state's efforts aimed at creating the most comfortable environment for the urban population. It is symbolic that achievements of the Republic of Belarus are presented, for the first time, at the World EXPO in the individual ex¬hibition hall. Our nation is open for cooperation in the international field. The demonstration of the national flavor and folk traditions of the country to the world community perfectly fits into the ex¬position theme "Better City - Better Life" and expressly highlights social orientation of the Belarusian state that strives to improve the peoples'standard of living. The achievements of the Republic of Be¬larus in the scientific, cultural, and economic spheres, presented at the exposition, provide an opportunity for enhancing investment cooperation with foreign states and establishing business relations with the People's Republic of China as well as with the representa¬tives of other nations.
