| 50 YEARS OF THE UN
The United Nations Organization was founded in the wake of World War II to maintain peace and security throughout the world, and to ensure social progress.
In June 1945 representatives of nearly 50 nations met in San Francisco to adopt the UN Charter that was ratified and became effective on October 24 of the same year. This date has been annually observed as UN Day.
The Republic of Belarus is one of the founding members of the United Nations actively involved in the activities of the world community. It is for this reason that in the history of a new independent state the first commemorative coins were dedicated to the observance of the 50th anniversary of the UN.
The coins have been issued within the framework of the international program, which was implemented in 1955 – 1999 under the supervision of the British Royal Mint.
