It was him who, having examined the Olympic traditions of the Hellenes, has introduced their ideals into the modern Olympiads - sportsmanship, the spirit of comradeship, and aspiration for attaining the utmost goals. He was directly involved in the development and approval of the structure and powers of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Charter, the Olympic flag, as well as a comprehensible symbol of five linked rings each with a primary color, the Olympic motto - "Altius, citius, fortius", and the oath of the Olympians. True enough, the Olympic Games are not held in the same sacred place, as was the case with Hellas. Perhaps, we all benefit from this because modern palaces and sports complexes are being built everywhere, whilst physical culture and healthy lifestyles are becoming increasingly popular throughout the world. Besides, inherent in each Olympiad is a novelty aspect. In recent years, the focus has been, like in ancient times, on cultural support of sports activities. Solemn opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games afford the organizers an excellent facility for acquainting their guests with the folk traditions and national uniqueness of the host country.
