| SILICHY
Silichy is the National Alpine Skiing Center located in one of the most scenic areas of Belarus which is only 30 kilometers away from Minsk. It is there, in Lagoysk district which is rightly called "Belarusian Switzerland", that high hills and steep slopes rise and people of all ages are offered extensive facilities for alpine skiing and outdoor activities.
The center was inaugurated on January 29, 2005, in the presence of President of the Republic of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenka who cut a traditional red ribbon and handed over a symbolic crystal key to the management of the center; thereafter, he personally tried the downhill skiing trail.
One of the main objectives of the state policy is to develop sports and tourism and popularize a healthy lifestyle in our country. To this end, a modern sports and health-improving center, which meets European standards, is provided with the most up-to-date equipment, and enjoys sophisticated infrastructure, has been built in Silichy. Its main downhill skiing track features a vertical descent of more than 100 meters, whereas one of the slopes is as long as almost one kilometer a perfect place to pick up speed and show your skills! The beginners have their own nursery slope. A fine downhill simulator is acquired for the novice skiers. There is also a specially equipped snowboarding and tubing area. The skiers are taken to the hilltops by quad and double chair lifts. A trail as good as the one mentioned above is also available for cross-country skiing, whilst the enthusiasts of ice-skating have a spacious ice rink at their service. Quad cycles and mini buggies for the restless extreme drivers are on tap. A winter day is short; therefore, all downhill courses and recreation zones are fitted with special lighting imitating the sun's rays so that you can do sport until late at night. Then a rest as thrilling as skiing is in store for you.
Guests are always welcome to Silichy where a hotel accommodating up to 100 visitors, 12 two-storied cottages, a restaurant, a cafe, a sports equipment rental, a first-aid post, baths and saunas, a billiard hall, and a security parking lot for 800 cars are at their disposal. If you like to stay alone there is no problem, however the most fascinating recreation is with all of your family or in the company of your friends. The scenery of exceptional beauty, clean air, and excellent infrastructure seem to be impatient to make you feel comfortable, while the hospitable staff will give everybody a warm welcome.
Besides, it must be emphasized that the Silichy National Alpine Skiing Center is continually enhancing its functional capabilities. In the short term, a swimming pool, a bowling alley, and a gymnasium which are part and parcel of the first-class resorts will be thrown open to the public, a hotel complex development is in the pipeline, and, more importantly, new downhill courses will be built on the slopes of the hills.
