The World Cup tournaments are events equal to the Olympic games in their significance. They as well as the Olympiads are held once in four years and gather the largest worldwide audience on television, and that's why the world champion title is not less in its value.
As any other big beginning, the idea of holding World Cup forums faced some problems. First the football players of different countries had only one official competition, namely the Olympic games, in which only amateurs could participate. A wide development of professionalism made the officials of the International Football Association (FIFA) more energetically start organizing a tournament, in which all the best players of the world could take part.
The first perspectives of holding a future championship opened after the Olympic Games in Paris (1924). Then the national teams of 22 countries participated in the football tournament and the Uruguayan team, which took part in it for the first time, defeated all the European grand teams and won the gold. The matches aroused such a strong interest that it became clear to everybody that in its popularity football was acknowledged by its fans as sport No.l. The final decision about holding independent competitions at the level of national teams was made by the FIFA Congress in Amsterdam on May 29,1928.
In two years the first World Cup competition was held in the homeland of the previous Olympiads. The Uruguayan team demonstrated its class and won the trophy. The Brazilian football players became world champions five times — a record number. Last time it happened in 2002, when they defeated the German team with a score of 2 to nil, and in this rank they will come to their rivals' country, where the next World Cup tournament will be held.
"The world is on a visit to friends" — this will be the motto of a new tournament. By the way, Germany has already gained experience in holding such competitions, that's why the former famous football player and coach, legend of the German football and President of the Organizing Committee, Franz Beckenbauer, said with confidence that the forthcoming contest of the best teams of the planet would be a real holiday for the football fans.
