| TRACK-AND-FIELD ATHLETICS
There is perhaps no man in the history of track-and-field athletics that has done for it more than Primo Nebiolo.
In 1981 he became the head of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF). At that time it was one of the poorest and its staff consisted of only two employees. The ambitious Italian moved the IAAF headquarters to Monte Carlo, the state known as a tax-free zone, and transformed it into a workable body. Today this organization includes more than 200 national athletics federations.
The best athletes, who had received nothing for their victories before, became millionaires. Large sums of money stirred up the development of this sport in many countries. By the way, Nebiolo took the lead in giving grants to Belarus too that has given the world sport such splendid athletes as Irina Yatchenko, Vladimir Dubrovshchik, Natalya Sazanovich, Yanina Korolchik and. many others.
